Steve Brennan

Steve is our lead tutor having founded the Scarborough Football Scholarship in 2015.

He has a UEFA B coaching licence and a Level One in goalkeeper coaching and FA Psychology. Steve has managed in the Northern Counties League and has also taken charge of Scarborough Athletic Reserves.

Steve is currently studying towards a Degree in Sports Science.

Denny Ingram

Denny is qualified at Football Coach as well as Semi Professional Football manager. Denny is working towards his UEFA B Licence.

He played 228 game in the EFL with Hartlepool United and also represented Scarborough FC, Northwich Victoria, Forest Green Rovers, Halifax Town, Harrogate Town, Whitby Town, Scarborough Athletic and Tadcaster Albion.

Denny has spent time as manager at Pickering Town, having previously been a player/assistant-manager with Scarborough FC and Scarborough Athletic.

Ryan Blott

Ryan is qualified to Level One in Football Coaching and is working towards his Level Two.

He played for Scarborough FC in the National League North and then went on to become Scarborough Athletic’s all-time record goalscorer, hitting the back of the net over 250 times.

He is currently player/coach and club captain at Scarborough Athletic, working closely with manager Darren Kelly.

Lee Sutton

Lee has a Level Two qualification in football coaching and a Level Four Degree in sports coaching.

He started as an apprentice with the Scholarship in 2013 and has worked his way up to being a teaching assistant and leading the ladies football programme.

Lee has played for Hull Futsal Club and has managed Scarborough Ladies FC.

Martin Dowey

Martin runs the marketing and recruitment department of the Scholarship.

He has over 19 years experience as a journalist, working for the Yorkshire Post, the Sunday Sun and with Yorkshire Regional Newspapers.

He is also the press officer with Scarborough Athletic.

Matthew Butterworth

Matt joins CU Scarborough after completing 4 years at Leeds Beckett
University as a PhD Researcher in the field of Sport and Exercise Nutrition.
Prior to Matt’s research he has led and developed programmes in Sport and
Exercise Science while specialising in Nutrition and Physiology.

Furthermore, Matt has worked in a range of environments with organisations such as Leeds Rhinos, Carnegie Rugby, England Golf, Professional Boxing, Marathon de Sables athletes and the British Military. Matt has nine years of teaching experience and is recognised as a fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Matt is currently working with a number of research teams that focus on
healthy and active ageing with a focus on tacking the demographic
transmogrification around the ageing population. Matt has presented his
research via a range of conduits including; published research articles,
published abstracts and conference proceedings.
